Location: Independent Lake Camp is located in Orson, Pennsylvania and
is set in the Endless Mountain region of the Pocono Mountains.
We are in the very northeastern tip of Pennsylvania, 40 minutes
northeast of Scranton or 40 minuets southeast of Binghamton,
New York. We are near the New York border. Click
here for directions.
Transportation: Transportation
is not included in tuition. There is an additional charge of
$120 each way, this is non refundable after June 1st. We have
pick-up and drop-off points in Newark-Airport (NJ-NY), Philadelphia,
PA and Baltimore, MD. For those flying to camp, Newark Airport
is the most convenient.
Sessions: Campers
and their families can select a 2,3,4,5,7 or 9 week season. And
since we create each session to stand on its own as a fully
inclusive season, complete with a final performance and exhibition
day, our 2-week campers do not experience a truncated or diluted
version of longer-season camp.
Visiting: We
have an open door policy, but we recommend the last day of the
session. For those planning to visit during the regular camp
activity day a phone call is appreciated in advance.
Performance Day: The last Saturday
of every session is performance day. Performances and exhibitions
are presented throughout the day.
Phone Calls: We have and open
calling policy where campers may call home at their convenience
but not during an activity.
Your Bunk: When you arrive at
camp, you will be assigned a bunk. Unless special arrangements
were made, you should be in a bunk with campers in your own
grade. Where possible, special requests for placement with friends
will be taken into consideration. Two or three counselors will
be living in each bunk. Bathrooms are in the bunks, housing
two stalls, two basins and one shower.
Laundry: Laundry by a commercial
service is included in tuition. Is picked up on Sunday and returned
Monday.
Banking: Campers may place money
in a personal account. We suggest that no more than $125 is needed
for any miscellaneous expenses that come along, excluding trips.
Trips: On occasion, we offer
trips out of camp, which are optional. These trips are not included
in tuition. You will be advised of trip offerings and prices
when available.
Medical: The Infirmary is always
open and there is a hospital nearby for emergencies. The camp's
registered nurses live in the Infirmary. All campers must receive
a medical examination before camp and their completed form must
be at camp prior to the camper's arrival. All medications are
kept and managed by the infirmary staff.
In Case of Illness: There is
an infirmary call in the morning after breakfast and another
before dinner. If you do not feel well during the day or night
and do not believe you should wait for regular infirmary hours,
there is a nurse on call 24 hours.
Program Attendance: There is
tremendous flexibility and choice in the ILC program. Late afternoon
quiet time is available for showers, etc. Remaining in the bunk
and not doing Primes or Dailies is not an option.
Behavior: Our rules have been
formulated for the general welfare of the entire camp community.
They are of the common sense variety and enforced consistently.
A Non-Smoking and Drug-Free Camp: Any person found in possession of tobacco, narcotics, liquor
or any other intoxicants or non-prescription drugs will be dismissed
from camp. |
